Life in the South End goes on much as it has for the past century. Residents wake up, go to work, and go home. The only significant changes are those wrought by technology (and the loss of infrastructure). It’s worth noting that property values in this area have risen dramatically with the loss of the waterfront to the military. This has led to a number of people losing their homes due to an inability to pay property taxes. In addition, more and more higher-income people are moving to this part of Tacoma.
Most of the South End is residential in nature.
